No female has ever won an open WPT event. Gigi Gagne will have the opportunity to change that on Tuesday. She is the last woman standing in the Seminole Hard Rock Lucky Hearts Poker Open and she isn’t just surviving, she is leading the final table.
Gagne will go into the final table of this event with a massive chip lead, with 2,708,000 chips, while her next closest competitor is Matt Juttelstadwith with 1,651,000 chips. He was the chip leader at the start of each of the last two days.
After beginning day 3 with 34 players and seven eliminations to go before the money, the tournament ploughed through the money bubble in just an hour of action.
No woman has ever taken down an open WPT Main Event title, although a few have come close. Kathy Liebert and J.J. Liu previously finished as runners-up, both at the Bay 101 Shooting Star.
A victory for Gigi Gagne, whose real name is Diane, would also be quite unlikely. The Clearwater resident has just one live tournament cash on her résumé, $4,097 for a 39th place finish in the 2010 WSOP Ladies Championship.
The final table gets underway at 1pm ET and will be streamed live on WPT.com with hole cards on a 30 minute delay and commentary from Tony Dunst, Dan O’Brien, and Poker Hall of Famer Mike Sexton.
