The WSOP has an answer to those looking for ultra high stakes action at the Rio: a $1 million buy in NL Hold ‘em tournament

The new event starting this year that has drawn a lot of interest is The Big One for One Drop scheduled for July 1st. This will be the first ever $1 million buy-in event, making it the largest in poker history.

Cirque Du Soleil owner and founder of the One Drop charity, Guy Laliberté, championed the event. The One Drop Foundation fights for universal access to water, and in this event each buy-in which will raise $111,111 for the charity.

When the event was announced, WSOP organizers said that the tournament would only award a gold bracelet if it garnered 22 entrants. At this time, there are exactly 22 confirmed participants, including Laliberté, Bobby Baldwin, Andy Beal, Tom Dwan, Jonathan Duhamel and plenty more poker pros from all corners of the globe.  At 22 players, the top prize is $8.89 million.

20% of the field will cash in this three day event, and the winner will walk away with a platinum bracelet along with a fair amount of cash.

About 11 percent of the buy-in will go to the charity, and the series plans to skip its normal fees, roughly 10 percent, to host the tournament.
