Final Table Set with Paul Guichard in Charge

What a intense day of poker that was at the EPT Deauville, Season 8. It took a little more than six hours to reduce the field from 24 players to eight, and set the final table for tomorrow.

Just three tables were filled with players as the European Poker Tour Deauville Main Event headed into its fifth day Sunday. While all 24 players seated were guaranteed at least €23,000, much more was just a few hours away.

Those three tables had been trimmed to one by the end of the day as the final table of EPT Deauville was set.

Paul Guichard is the chip leader and one of five Frenchmen heading to the final table but his lead is anything but safe.

If he were to ride his chip lead all the way to victory, it would be by far Guichard’s biggest score of his live tournament career. The Frenchman has just five cashes to his name including one small win for $23,680.

Luca Pagano came into play on the fifth day as the chip leader but didn’t have things go his own way like they did on Day 4. He still made the final table, placed in fifth with 2,010,000 in chips. We were praising Pagano after he made the money, his 20th in all. This is the Team PokerStars Pro’s seventh final table, yet another record extending bar set higher. We are running out of words to describe his achievements on this tour. All he needs now is an EPT title, and then he can change his name to Mr. EPT.

The minimum a player will take home now is €67,200 for 8th, whereas the winner will take home €875,000. French gaming law states that no deals can be agreed between the players

The final table gets under way at 12pm CET and will air live on PokerStars.tv
